Frequently Asked Questions

BACK TO EVENTS
Q. Do I have to be a legal professional to take part?
A. No, anybody is welcome to join the walk as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so. Dogs are permitted providing they are kept on a lead at all times.
Q. How many people do I need in my team? Can I take part individually?
A. There is no minimum or maximum number for a team. Individual participants are most welcome and can join other walkers on the day if they wish.
Q. What will the Team Organiser have to do?
A. As Team Organiser you will be responsible for coordinating your organisation’s walk team. This will include promoting the event to your colleagues, clients, friends and family, forwarding emails from the NWLST to participants and sending the money raised by the event to the NWLST.
Q. How much does it cost to take part in the walk?
A. It is free to register however we ask that each participant pledges to raise as much money as they can for the North West Legal Support Trust.
Q. How much money do I need to raise?
A. As we are raising funds to improve access to free legal advice for some of the most vulnerable in our local community, we encourage each participant to try to raise at least £20. All donations are eligible for Gift Aid and will be worth 25% more when gift aid is claimed!
Q. What will happen if I don’t reach the target?
A. If you are unable to hit this target there are many other ways in which you can raise money to maximise your fundraising. Ideas include holding a bake sale, organising a bring and buy, hosting a film night for family and friends or holding an auction of promises – the list is endless! Please see our Fundraising Hints and Tips for inspiration. If you cannot raise this figure, please do not worry, any donation is greatly appreciated.
Q. How do I collect my sponsorship money?
A. Paper sponsorship forms will be included in your registration pack and we will set up an online fundraising page for you and send you the link and details.
Either way, please ensure your sponsors allow us to claim Gift Aid if they are UK tax payers so we can claim an extra 25% on top of their gift. A donation of £20 will become £25 with Gift Aid!
Q. When and where do I give my sponsorship money?
A. All sponsorship money will be due 3 months after the event. Please send any cheques made payable to The North West Legal Support Trust and sent to Laura Cassidy c/o The Access to Justice Foundation, The National Pro Bono Centre, 48-49 Chancery Lane, London, WC2A 1JF along with your completed sponsor forms. Alternatively you can bring cash to pay in on the day at the registration desk before the walk.
Q. How fit do I need to be?
A. The route is suitable for all fitness levels however please be aware that there are  hills in places. Should you be feeling energetic, you are most welcome to run the course however please be aware that the route crosses several public roads so please take care.
 Q. How long will it take me to walk?
A. We estimate that the Liverpool Legal Walk (5K) will take you between 1 to 1.5 hours and for the Manchester, Preston and Carlisle (10K), 1.5 to 2 hours. You can walk it as fast or as slow as you like, there is no rush!
Q. What should I wear and bring with me?
A. Please ensure you wear comfortable walking shoes or trainers suitable for the distance. Feel free to bring anything else with you that that you feel will aid your personal comfort on the day. You might consider a fleece/jacket, bottle of water, sun cream, a hat, rain coat, snacks (drinks will be available when you register), plasters and a camera or device so that you can document your success!
Q. Will there be photographers on the day?
A. Each team has the opportunity to have an official photograph taken with our lead walkers before they set off on the walk. There will also be people taking photographs along the route, don’t forget to wave and smile at them! These photographs will be available on our website shortly after the event.
Please remember to take some of your own photographs during the walk and share them with us afterwards. You can also Tweet your photographs to @nwlst using #legalwalk.
Q. What do I do once I finish the walk?
A. As you cross the finish line you will be given a token for a free drink. You can then enjoy some refreshments, participate in our fundraiser events and hear a few words from our guests. The event will close at approximately 9pm.
Q. What happens if the event is cancelled?
A. In the event that we are forced to postpone the walk we will contact team leaders to inform them of our decision and will update them with the rescheduled date once this has been agreed.
Q. Are there other ways in which I can be involved if I choose not to take part in the walk?
A. If walking is not your thing then please consider joining our team of marshalls to help out on the day. We need the support of many people so would love you to join our team!
