Legal Walks

Our Legal Walks 2013 have been a great success!

Cumbria 12 Sept 2013 (5k challenge)

Liverpool 19 Sept 2013 (10k challenge this year!)

Manchester 26 Sept 2013 (10k challenge)

Here’s what happened………!!

12 September Cumbria Legal Walk 2013
The second Cumbria Legal Walk was held in Carlisle on 12 September 2012! The route was 5k around Carlisle city centre and finished at the Sportsman’s Inn. The Walk was a great success led by His Honour Judge Hughes QC and supported by Carlisle & District Law Society, and all aspects of the Cumbrian Legal Profession. Despite the rain over 65 walkers turned out to raise funds and support free legal advice agencies. A special thanks to NWLST volunteer Anna Gregg and to Cumbria Law Centre for all their hard work in coordinating the event! See our team photo here!

19 September Liverpool Legal Walk 2013

The second annual Liverpool Legal Walk increased the challenge to the Liverpool legal community and tested them with a 10k route around Liverpool city centre, starting at the QEII Courts and finishing at the Slug & Lettuce on North John Street. At the end of the Walk all the teams celebrated the success of over 160 walkers coming together to support the North West Legal Support Trust. His Honour Goldstone QC led a splendid Judiciary team with a team of Lead Walkers comprising Alistair Fletcher (President of the Liverpool Law Society), Nick Johnson QC (representative of the Northern Circuit of the Bar), Claire Lindley (Chief Crown Presecutor, Merseyside/Cheshire) and Charlie Mahoney (Chair of Merseyside Junior Lawyer Division).

Many thanks to NWLST volunteers Rachael Robinson, Monica Savic-Jabrow and Joe Tomlinson for all their hard work in organising the event and Sarah Woodhouse and a team of volunteers from the University of Liverpool LAC for providing walking marshalls.

Thanks to all our magnificent Liverpool teams! 7 Harrington Street, Ballam Solicitors, BPP Liverpool, Brabners Chaffe Street, Canter Levin Berg, Cobleys, CPS Merseyside, DWF, EAD Solicitors, Gregory Abrams, Heaney Watson, Jackson Canter, Judiciary teams, Kirwans, KWP Solicitors, Lee Solicitors, Liverpool Law Society, Merseyside JLD, MSB Solicitors, Pearson Fielding, PSU Liverpool, Stephensons, University of Liverpool Legal Advice Centre, Young Legal Aid Lawyers.

Manchester Legal Walk 2013

40 Teams and 350 walkers turned out on a fine and warm evening at the Manchester Legal Walk to raise money to support free legal advice services! Our NWLST President, His Honour Judge Platts led a fantastic group of Lead Walkers; Nazir Afzal (Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS North West), Sucheet Amin (President of the Manchester Law Society), Charlotte Brinsley (outgoing Chair of Manchester Trainee Solicitor Group), Tony Cross QC (Representative from the Northern Circuit of the Bar), Gemma Harris (Chair of the Manchester Young Solicitors Group) and The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Naeem ul Hassan JP. Even with a last minute change to our route, marshals reported no one got lost (…….although apparently some teams could not resist the wonderful atmosphere of The Oast House drinks reception as they passed with 2k to go and cut a corner or two to join in early!!). Our teams were SPECTACULAR! Some had come in fancy dress (Manchester Settlement as Crocodiles and Burton Copland as Cops & Robbers!) and many made a huge effort to boost fundraising by holding dress down days (Slater Gordon and Hill Dickinson) and other events at their firms and chambers. Thank you to all of you who took part and to those who have donated and supported…..please email us at [email protected] with any fundraising news and we can mention it here!
